Tips for Food at a Themed Party

One of my biggest recommendations is to have a theme for any party. A theme will really bring the whole thing together and can make planning a breeze. However many people have a hard time coming up with food to fit a specific theme. Here are some popular themes and some specific ideas for food for a children's party.

1. Pirate Birthday Party

This theme is very popular, particularly since the recent Disney Pirate movies came out. It is a wonderful theme for a scavenger hunt game and for finger foods with pirate names.
  • The beverage can be Grog, even without alcohol
  • Chex mix served from a treasure chest
  • Gold foil chocolate coins
  • Swash buckle Sandwiches - cut the crusts of of any sandwich
  • Jolly Roger - There is actually a candy called Jolly Roger
  • Yo Ho Ho - Ho Ho's
2. Princess Birthday Party

This theme can be a specific princess or just princesses in general. If it is specific to a certain princess it is a good idea to watch the movie associated with the character and find foods they are seen to eat. Here are some great ideas for general princess themed parties.
  • Princess Punch - pink lemonade
  • Fairy Godmother Fruit Mix - make a fruit salad mix
  • Hero Hot Dogs - hot dogs in a bun
  • Step Mother sandwiches
3. Dinosaur Birthday Party
Dinosaurs are popular with many ages and can be a lot of fun for a theme. Use the names of various dinosaurs to make almost any food fit the theme. Check out a book from the library for help with names and spellings.
  • Carcarydon cookies
  • Brontosaurus Brownies
  • Ichthysuarus Ice Cream
  • Pteranadon Pizza
Use your imagination when creating names for ordinary foods and almost any favorite food will suddenly be new and fun.
